Swimming Lessons Come to an End

Last week was our last week of swimming lessons. The swim school called it "Power Week" and we went every day. I was amazed at how much they learned in the two sessions this summer. Rebekah is almost swimming on her own!

Here they are one day after their lesson - they were each in a different class, but they were at the same time, perfect!

First they learned to glide - where they pushed off the stair with their arms out straight in front of them and would kick out to their teacher.

This was on the last day of the first session, Rebekah was able to kick back to the step on her own! (Check it out! Her eyes are OPEN!)

This picture is on the last day of power week. Here Rebekah is practicing her breathing, she puts her head under for 4 counts and then takes a breath all while kicking.

Here Rebekah is practicing kicking on her back.

And now kicking and arms at the same time on her back.

She also learned to do "big arms" kind of like the "crawl" but I didn't get any pictures, only video - I may try to put some video on another post.

Here is Alex doing a back float. One thing they had to do to advance the the next level (Goldfish) is to float independently on their back for 5 seconds. Alex didn't quite get there this summer. He LOVES the water though!

Gliding back to the step

This was during "power week" check out the determination on that boy's face!

One thing they learned to do was climb out of the pool on their own. It was amazing to see Alex progress with that. At first he couldn't do it at all and by the end he climed out all on his own.

Alex coming up after diving for rings - he got one!
This was Alex's favorite "fun time" activity.
